To have limits is key for an adult and you learn (or not) this in childhood. If you don't do it who will?

I have found that not fighting the little battles gives you way more energy and patience to fight the big ones, ie, the ones thar are dangerous (crossing the road, holding hands in the street, not touching the cooker etc). I rarely discuss issues like food with my three.

You should also know that my five year old has been particularly challenging! He repeatedly left the house alone form about the age of three and has always been very headstrong. I leave him alone as much as I can, praise him A LOT and only try to exert control over his behaviour if it is a danger to him or someone else. If you don't fight, neither can they!

I hope that helps.

Hi I read and liked your blog post. Your dd has a very beautiful name. I think you are doing a great job. I'm struggling with the same thing (how to keep my calm) and I have to say I have found my inner pool of Zen lately.

When my dd is having a tantrum, Instead of screaming, getting angry or what not, I now dig into that pool and think first. I read that the best thing to do is acknowledge their emotions and tell them how they would handle themselves in a more appropriate manner. I can link you some articles about this that helped me a lot if you'd like.

When she's food throwing etc. I just say 'I see you are finished' very calmly, and take her food away. I try not to pay too much attention to that kind of behavior.

La Leche League has been a great inspiration for me with parenting tips and just being able to talk to other nursing mothers with a toddler

Maybe one of them may have had to use a litigation lawyer in the past and could recommend one for you.
