The word grace refers to that pregnant moment before the meal. Either with a prayer, ritual or moment of silence, we offer thanks for the abundance in our lives. I've included three blessings that I've composed/found and are published in my first book Seasons of Thanks.
We'll be reciting them often in the coming week but these words have filled our house all year long. After all, what could be more blessed than the arrival of a child? For all of you who read this blog, you too feel the powerful gratitude of new parenthood.
Mama's Grace for Baby
May you be blessed
May you always feel how much you are loved
May you make a contribution to this world that is unique to you
May we pass many loving hours together
May we always remember our one-ness.
Grace for the Holiday Meal
May we join hands around the dinner table,
To pray for the strength and patience to love one another.
May our circle grow with every birth and union.
Into a community united by love, rather than blood.
May every hardship make our circle stronger.
May it teach us that whenever we reach out in need,
Our hands will be always be clasped in the palms of others.
New Year's Blessing
Here, my daughters
Is where love will be seen
Not hidden in corners
But in the midst of occasions of falling.
And even though there may be faults
And even some slight losses
Our gain will be incomparably greater.
